One line is the 118 east and then the 405 south through the Sepulveda Pass. The other drops south first, on Topanga Canyon or De Soto, picks up the 101 and joins the 405 further down. Neither is reliably quicker. The 118 can be clear while the 405 is stacked above the Getty, and the 101 can be the better road at seven and the worse one at eight.
